ST. CATHERINE'S HIGH SCHOOL.
|
|
St. Catherine’s school is a Catholic school that has over 1100 students. It started as a school for the girls from the orphanage near the school. Now it has grown and also boys and girls that aren’t living in the orphanage are attending the school. Children from primary and secondary school study at St. Catherine’s. Head of the school is Sister Blanche. She and a lot of other teachers are taking responsibility for the education of the children. And that is a very hard job. The classes are very big. Some of the classes even contain 80 students. Despite of the big number of children studying at St. Catherine’s it is very well organized. Thanks to the hard work of the teachers the lessons are disciplined and the children are very polite.

Next to the regular lessons like mathematic, geography, history and so on, the children also get computer lessons to improve the technical skills. Also creativity is something that is valuable to the school. The children get drawing lessons and lessons on self-awareness.
Not all the children at the school come from a fortunate family. That is something that the school also keeps in mind. (The education at St. Catherine’s doesn’t cost money, they just ask the students to be devoted.) Therefore children that are in need of certain things are being helped by the school. Teachers also visit students at there homes after school sometimes. This way they get a good image of there home situation and they understand the students better.
We have been here for a week now and our impression of St. Catherine’s school is that everybody is working very hard to give the children the best education they can have. With the big amount of children it is very hard sometimes and it is certainly not an easy job. But every day the teachers start with a positive attitude and new energy to get the best out of the day.
